Posting images online has become mainstream. In doing so, however, we often unknowingly reveal valuable private information. Indeed, buried in its metadata, images can contain information like your name, your location, the type of camera you use, etc. So it’s a good idea to remove metadata before uploading your images to the world.
You can easily accomplish this using the free and open source image editor, GIMP. GIMP is available for Linux, macOS and Windows.
Simply open your image in GIMP and click “File” and “Export As…”. In the first window you can choose the file type of your liking. Do this and click the “Export” button.
In the second window you should de-select options like “Save Exif data”, “Save XMP data”, “Save IPTC data”, etc.
Finally, click “Export” to remove the metadata and you’re done!
